Sandra Y. Tengan, ASID - Profile

Born and raised as a third-generation American-Japanese in Japan, Sandra Yumi Tengan attended American schools in Japan and Okinawa.

Her background is bi-cultural and bilingual. Having her father’s roots in Hawaii, she attended University of Hawaii at Manoa and Artisan School of Interior Design (merged with Chaminade University in1983) in Honolulu.

Sandra has work experience in interior architectural design ranging in both residential and commercial projects. She has worked in the design field at notable architectural firms; Architects Hawaii Ltd. and CJS Group (both in Honolulu), and Riecke Sunnland Kono Architects (Kahului, Maui). She also has retail experience at Nerland’s Fine Home Furnishings (formerly in Kahului) as an in-house designer.

Her firm, Sandra Tengan Interior Design has been established since 1985 on Maui.

Sandra has been active in professional organizations; in ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) as a Professional member, and AIA (American Institute of Architects) Maui Chapter, as a Professional Affiliate member. She is a past President of ASID Hawaii Chapter for the 2003-2004 term, consisting of 250 members on all Hawaiian islands.

Clients include dignified residential clients, major hotels and resorts, and select businesses in retail, restaurants, clinics, and offices.
